SEVEN WONDERS OF ANCIENT WORLD GREAT PYRAMID IN GISA
Absolutaley, many works were created in the world in terms of architecture or their magnificent appearance throughout history. However, what they are was naturally determined by some travelers who traveled a lot, considering the conditions of the time, but that list we all know is from the II century BC. It was written by the historian Herodotus. This list of Herodotus belonging to his ancient world was registered by the Decades in the 5th century.
Greek historians wrote the 7 Wonders frequently afterwards. Callimachus from Cyrene, who lived between 305-240 BC, was the head of the Library of Alexandria, and in his "Collection of Wonders of the World" he spoke of the 7 Wonders and wrote all the knowledge about 7 wonders was in the library. Unfortunately, the Library of Alexandria was completely destroyed. In the Middle Ages, the list was redone, and by definition it was called the seven most influential works of antiquity. Some of the 7 Wonders still existed in the Middle Ages, but others disappeared.
Consequently, the earliest surviving list (written engraving) is from the Dutch painter Maarten van Heemskerck (1498-1574) and the "History of Architecture" by Johann Fischer von Erlach. Today's archeology considers that there are too many mysteries in the history of the wonders. For those who do wonders, these works are religious exaltation, mythological, and their artistic aspect is indisputable. These structures also symbolize power and science. For us, 7 Wonders symbolizes the human talent that has survived for thousands of years and reached today, even if only one, in the changing conditions brought by time, when there was no mass and aesthetic architecture yet. Now let's remember once again the 7 Wonders mentioned in ancient sources.
The Great Pyramid in Giza, the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Bodrum (Halicarnassus) Mausoleum, the Statue of Rhodes, the Temple of Zeus at Olympia…
We will examine each wonder individually and give priority to the Great Pyramid of Giza.
PYRAMID OF GIZA
“Man is afraid of time, and time is of the pyramids…”
The only surviving evidence of the 7 Wonders; So much so that there is no need for historians or poets or anyone else to describe its magnificence and unbelievable beauty with its appearance, dimensions and shape. The Great Pyramid or the Pyramid of Khufu-Cheops still stands tall against time, resisting not being destroyed.
The location of the Great Pyramid is at Giza, in the ancient tomb city of Memhis. The region that remains within the borders of Egypt today is a part of the capital, Cairo.
The general opinion is that all of the three Pyramids at Giza are within the scope of the 7 Wonders, but the pyramid mentioned as wonder is the Great Pyramid built by Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu from the 4th Dynasty in 2500 BC as a mausoleum according to scientific determinations. Traditionally, pyramid building was the product of a "platform-mastaba" culture in Ancient Egypt and was done for royalty. It is the pyramid of Sakkara built by Imhotep in the name of King Djoser. According to scientific tradition, the Great Pyramid was built in 20 years. As believed a city first was built, stone blocks were moved and piled up in the city. It is thought that worked long time to straighten the surface of the stones. However it is a big mystery how such big stone blocks were placed. Various theories have been developed. Stone blocks, which were removed by a spiral ramp built according to one of them, were stacked on top of each other. The ramp was covered with mud, irrigated, and stone blocks were pushed and shifted. According to another theory, stone blocks were lifted with giant levers. When Napoleon entered Egypt in 1798, he said to his soldiers in front of the pyramids, "Soldiers! 40 centuries look at us from the top of the pyramids." he said.
If we take a look at the features of the Great Pyramid, its height is 145.75 meters. It is now thought to have lost 10 meters of this height. It was the tallest structure in the world for 43 centuries and was only surpassed in the 19th century. Its surface was covered with soft and flattened stones.
Its slope is 54 degrees 54 minutes. It is perfect when the four sides of its base are precisely measured and oriented. A complete square is obtained by joining the base corners. Each side is 229 meters and the maximum error rate between the side lengths is surprisingly not even 0.1%. It is assumed that the pyramid was built from two million stone blocks, each weighing several tons. If the stones of the three pyramids are lined up side by side, a wall of 3 meters high and 30.48 cm thick can be built to surround France.
If you put St. Peter, Florence Milanova, London's Westminster and St Paul's Cathedrals side by side Great Pyramid would fill the space they occupy completely. According to the past, new theories are now being developed for the pyramids. An astronomical observatory, a temple for a special faith, a geometric structure made by an unknown ancient civilization, a place for special purposes by extraterrestrials. Whatever it may be, today the giant pyramid and its two likenesses stand among the clouds of mystery on the west coast of the Nile, symbolizing and commemorating the mystical journey to the afterlife.
